Turbo equalization receivers for evolved GSM/EDGE radio access network using QAM modulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
For evolution of the GSM/EDGE radio access network (RAN), the use of higher order modulation like 16and 32-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is considered in standardization for increased peak data rates and reduced transmission delays. In this paper, an optimized receiver design for different packet data transmission schemes is proposed. Turbo coding and turbo equalization is discussed for improved power efficiency and interference robustness. An efficient complexity reduction of the equalizer enables the usage of turbo equalization at a complexity comparable to that of separate equalization and decoding for turbo-coded transmission. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Physical layer evolution for GSM/EDGE
EDGE has enabled the GSM network to offer third generation services as part of the UMTS core network. This is due to the introduction of 8PSK modulation and the recent specification of interfaces from the GERAN to the UMTS core network. This paper studies further improvements to the spectral efficiency and capacity of EDGE through the use of more sophisticated adaptive modulation schemes based ...
متن کاملSingle Antenna Cochannel Interference Cancellation in Single Carrier Transmission Systems by Improved Prefiltering and Turbo Equalization
In this paper, a joint (multiuser) turbo equalizer performing single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) for complex–valued modulation schemes is proposed. In order to improve the performance of a reduced–complexity equalizer for intersymbol interference (ISI) channels in different interference situations (overloaded system), an appropriate prefiltering approach is considered first. Oversa...
متن کاملEqualization concepts for EDGE
In this paper, an equalization concept for the novel radio access scheme Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) is proposed by which high performance can be obtained at moderate computational complexity. Because high-level modulation is employed in EDGE, optimum equalization as usually performed in Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) receivers is too complex and suboptimum schem...
متن کاملTurbo-Detection for Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution
Turbo-detection applies the “turboprinciple” to iterative equalization and decoding of data transmitted via frequency selective channels. The performance of turbo-detection strongly depends on the ISI (Intersymbol Interference) introduced by the modulator and the waveform channel. In order to achieve higher data rates within GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), 8PSK modulation will ...
